Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fastest of them all? Myrkskog seems to be hoping you will answer with their name. The album is full of speed through and through, hence it only lasts about 30 minutes. I love my metal fast, but not when it's just mindless speed. Myrkskog contains some of the fastest musicians out there today, but that's all they're good at doing, is being fast. Maybe that's what they're aiming for, if so, good for them; but I demand a little something more from my music than mindless speed. Although there are a few decent grooves found throughout the recording, there doesn't seem to be anything to get excited about. The band is comprised of the basic four member set up. Sechtdamon is one of the fastest drummers I've heard. His double kicks are amazing, but he never really gets a chance to shine because that seems to be all he's doing throughout the entire albums is those double kicks. Guitarists Destructhor (also from Zyklon) and Savant M are also extremely fast when it comes to playing their instruments. Yet again I have the same qualm, that's all they really do is play as fast as they can. This makes for a very boring and repetitive endeavor when listening to the whole album. Bassist/vokillist Master V throws some pretty straightforward death growls at you throughout the album and just tends to add to the bland feel of the whole thing. Sorry that I once again could not obtain lyrics to this album, but I will have the dissection edited when I do find them. The production on this album sounds like Zyklon's World Ov Worms, yet not quite as good. The production at times does remind me ever so slightly of Hate Eternal's Conquering the Throne also. One thing I have to mention quick is most of the experiences I have had with Candlelight bands has shown they always have great drum production, really standout stuff and Myrkskog is no exception. Other then that the production is pretty average at best. When I try to look at this album as tracks by themselves or just pieces, it's quite enjoyable, although there aren't really any standout tracks. I could probably pop this disc in and skip around to a couple tracks, but that's all I could do. When I listen to this album as a whole, by the time I get to about the fifth or sixth track I feel like I've heard my fill and don't feel the need to continue on with the rest of the tracks. Also there's nothing really on here that's begging me to come back for more. Overall this is a very sub par release. Give it a whirl if you want, but don't say I didn't warn you of the repetitive nature found seeping out of every crack and crevice of the album.
