For the enjoyment of fans worldwide, Kreator has finally released their first official DVD. Packed with all sorts of extras, this is a must have for all Kreator fans, especially fans of their live spectacle. For those fans lucky enough, there is also the included 5.1 Surround Sound mix. It comes packaged in a "super jewel case" with a 16 page booklet, making for a very impressive sight right off the shelf. Luckily what dwells within is even more impressive. I am one of those lucky enough to know someone with a surround sound setup, and it's pretty nice to hear Kreator in their full glory. While no "Rock in Rio" or "Alive in Athens" in terms of sound quality, this latest live disc from Kreator does sound pretty nice. The best moments are when the crowd is joining in with a chant or a fist-pump. These are the moments in which the 5.1 surround sound really shines, as it is when the rear speakers are used most. You actually feel as if you're sitting in the middle of the pit, just tell your girlfriend that you're cheating on her to add the final violent touch of mosh pit excellence. Camera angles and switchery are done rather well, although there are a few, overly-artsy switches. One such moment comes when they switch back and forth between a couple band members to the beat of the song (I think it was "Pleasure to Kill); somewhat annoying. There are a couple of crazy color effects too, I couldn't tell if it was the DVD player or if it was intentional. It becomes super-saturated at times as some sort of music-video-type effect. I'd prefer a clean shot if I'm watching a live performance, for I don't go to shows all hopped up on shrooms, so I'm not seeing crazy colors. The DVD doesn't play out like your normal concert DVD would. There are about 3 or 4 songs per "set", and between each set is a little montage of other bands (a few that stood out: Edguy, Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy, Moonspell, Sodom making fun of them) saying how cool Kreator is, clips of fans, and clips of the band backstage. I am still undecided as to whether or not I would prefer a full on live show, non stop, or if I like the way Kreator laid this one out for me. Among the extras is EVERY SINGLE music video that Kreator has ever released. If that alone is not enough to own this DVD, then go back and re-read all of the other paragraphs here. 160 minutes of live footage plus every video ever made? If you're a casual fan of Kreator, you still might want to pick this one up. But for the die hard fan, this is required viewing. Buy it now, for your Kreator can giveth life just as it can taketh away. Wrathchild's Choice Cuts
Sodom Poking fun at Kreator - it's somewhere in the DVD, watch the whole thing to see it
