You know, it's a bit odd. I never started listening to progressive rock music until I started writing for this website. Funny this website should be devoted to METAL, yet continuously we get releases like Gravity, from the band Anekdoten in the old Metal Review mailbox. I'm not complaining, most of the stuff we've gotten in is actually really enjoyable, it's just a bit odd, that's all. Anyways, on to the dissection!
Anekdoten is a Swedish progressive rock band similar to something like RPWL. I don't know much about progressive rock, the scene, many other bands, anything like that, however, I do know I enjoy what Anekdoten has to offer. And what that is, is simply some calm collection progressive rock with heavy emphasis on keyboards. The vokills are very calm and collective, simply put, very relaxing. This seems to be the idea the music is going for more less, is to give that relaxing, almost melting feeling and it does accomplish this in my mind. With ambient keyboards, beautiful acoustic guitar passages and just all around spacey music, Anekdoten provides a pleasurable listening experience that fans of progressive rock should enjoy.
Now once again, I just want to reaffirm the fact that I have little to no knowledge whatsoever of the progressive rock scene, but I do know this, I enjoyed what Anekdoten had to offer. So, if you're a casual progressive rock fan, like myself, then I recommend you look into what this band has to offer.
