Ah. Here we have One Way Mirror. First to note is that they're from France. Second to note is that if One Way Mirror came out ten years ago, they'd be huge. They play a somewhat dated but well executed version of what I suppose we would call "late nu-metal". Taking portions of recent efforts from Soilwork and In Flames but shaving back the technicality to late 90s arena stalwarts like Disturbed and Linkin Park. With all that being said, and most of you vomiting, I could see this being a guilty pleasure. Then again, if the review makes you vomit, all bets are off.
What would make this qualify as a guilty pleasure for some of you is this band's subtle affection for later Soilwork. The drums here sound exactly like the drums on Stabbing the Drama. The music is wrapped around a similar formula to that album, albeit a far less interesting formula. Most of these songs are wrapped around heavily effected screams and growls and typically decent clean vocals. The tempos vary from as fast as In Flames gets these days to, well as slow as In Flames gets.
Overall, this is not a bad album. Its fallbacks are that it came out too late and this sound is super super tired. As good as this may be, I could save my energy/money and just put on Stabbing the Drama or Come Clarity. If I had to recommend a band from this world, I would say Threat Signal or even Killswitch Engage before I mentioned One Way Mirror. All that said, it isn't bad, it's just a case of too little too late.
I mean we got Mastodon playing the Grammy's and shit these days...
