Trees
Lights Bane
1.3
I’ll be real honest here… bands like Khanate, Sunn0))) and Earth just don’t do anything for me. Saying I hate the sound is a stretch because I can certainly appreciate savage, bowel-shaking heaviness, but the songs just don’t hold my interest and for the most part I find myself thinking “just fucking end already” more often than I find myself enjoying the noise.
Trees take an approach to doom-noise-drone-whatever similar to Khanate with very little graspable structure and an overall feel of total disregard for humanity. The guitars are ridiculously slow, often holding out notes for what seems like forever. The drums pound at a snails pace. Desolate, far away howling pass for vocals but they are really just another layer of terrifying, distorted hate. It's slow and scary, get it?
I requested this album for review because I generally enjoy Crucial Blast’s challenging roster, but this is just a little too challenging for me I guess. I don’t understand how there is an audience for this sort of thing, but there is, and if you are a part of that audience I think Lights Bane would be an adequately frightening addition to your noise collection.
