Something to Lust About

Scarlet is a recently reformed hardcore band from Richmond, Virginia. Ready to take the hardcore world by storm, Scarlet infuses a mix of math intensity, along with expansive industrial moments, and all out hardcore aggression. Planning for a full-length release later this year, Something to Lust About is a perfect title for this short MCD of new material. It gives fans a little taste of what's to come and should have them frothing at the mouth by the time the full-length hits the shelves.
Grinding riffs and harsh breakdowns abound, Scarlet brings on the intensity of The Dillinger Escape Plan with a bit more structure and hits the tinges of industrial elements similar to Nine Inch Nails. Trust me, the combination is as weird as it sounds, but somehow manages to work. With harsh vokills erupting from the speakers, while the drums and rhythm beats bludgeon the listener down, the grinding leads behind provide the final touches on the intricate songwriting Scarlet brings to the table. With harsh starts and stops this band is sure to impress with their brash and abrasive sound.
My only complaint about this disc is the fact that it's over and done with so quick. With only six songs, most of them only being in the two minute range, I couldn't see paying too much money for this release. But if found for around an EP price there shouldn't be a problem. If you like intense, complex hardcore, Scarlet is a band well worth your time and I can say without a doubt after hearing Something to Lust About, you will be as eager as I am for a full-length release.
