On Hooks To Pieces

The "pearl" of the Ukranian black metal scene, Lucifugum, brings us their latest assault against Christianity in album form. This ultra kvlt, obscure black metal band doesn't have all that much to offer in the way of variety, but they do have that whole monotonous mediocrity thing down pretty damn well! I would call this band a keyboard band with backing black metal. The keyboards lead the majority of the melodies, and they really account for most of the good parts of this album. The guitar riffing is ultra straight forward, just the one ascending/descending riff played at moderately high speed. Bass, as far as I can hear, is a single note played to the beat. Congratulations to the bassist for finding such an easy gig playing in Lucifugum. Drumming is somewhat odd, it sounds oddly like a drum machine. The drum production is pretty muddy, so either way it makes no difference, and since there's virtually no information about Lucifugum out there, I have no idea. It is as if they sprung forth from the rotting soil of a grave yard and pieced together some recording equipment from the surrounding tombstones and bone fragments. There's basically nothing to say about Lucifugum's latest effort. I have nothing all that bad to say, because it wasn't terrible, but there's really nothing good to say either. There's nothing that sets them apart from they myriad of kvlt black metal bands out there, so if you're into that kind of thing you'll probably dig Lufifugum. I do, however, agree with their anti-Christian views! Wrathchild's Choice Cuts: Take your pick, they're the height of mediocrity
