BloodSpoiled
Demo 2007
6.1
Demo 2007, from Denmark’s BloodSpoiled, is a four-track slab of rudimentary no-nonsense death metal that displays potential, even though it’s rough around the edges. Excluding the 52-second “Intro” from the mix, “Hate Myself” is a mid-paced tune that, despite occasional sloppiness during the chunky, intertwined guitar/drum sections and loose snare rolls, keeps the listener interested via frequent changes in direction. While tightening the compositions should be a priority for BloodSpoiled, the tense leads and complementary rhythms that appear in the latter half work in the song’s favor, making it more likeable and captivating than the first half. Likewise, another changeup comes in the form of the foreboding instrumental portion of “Question My Believing,” which heavily contrasts with the chugging DM that sandwiches it. The climactic buildup meant to signal the reentry of harder material is a nice touch, too. “My Silent Journey” takes its time warming up, but soon transitions into a familiar tempo while typical growls punctuate the soundscape as they do elsewhere. Unfortunately, last does indicate least in the case of Demo 2007. Still, considering BloodSpoiled have only existed for a year, or thereabouts, the formerly mentioned is a minor accomplishment. Time to regroup, though, and hopefully start improving.
