Children of Chaos is the debut album from Soulidium, a nu-metal/rock band out of Springfield, Missouri. Need I say more?
I’ll be brief with this one. Soulidium play Korn/Disturbed styled angst-fueled rock. In general, I’d say those acts are much heavier and more polished than these Missouri boys, but Soulidium is just a little bit better with melody, which sort of adds a Creed-ish feel to it. Expect bass-heavy groove riffs, large, faceless power chord choruses, a few ballads, etc. But hey, there is no rapping or metalcore breakdowns, or really any attempts to "metal up" the sound. This is pure hard rock made for kids who still wear chain wallets and giant black pants with zippers and straps all over.
The lyrics are generally about personal struggle and feature an over abundance of swear words and references to pain and darkness. Vocalist Michael McKnight doesn't really do the band any favors with his flat and monotonous delivery. The production is decent enough I guess, with a hefty low-end, but it isn’t quite up to corporate radio standards.
This is the type of music that if picked up by a major label and polished extensively with pro-tools might get a spot on your local hard rock station between Breaking Benjamin and Trapt. If that wasn’t enough for you to make your decision, maybe the eyeliner ad they are calling a promotional photo will sway your opinion.
