God Told Me

I’m going to make this short because God Told Me isn’t exactly a metal album, it’s only three tracks, and is quite frankly horrible. At first I was convinced that during the data entry process here at Metal Review that there was a typo and we had misspelled the band’s name. To the contrary, the band is actually called Sixoneosix, not Sixonesix mind you, which makes absolutely zero sense to me. My only guess is that the band misspelled it themselves… on their website… and their myspace… and everywhere else. Okay, so maybe it isn't a typo. Anyway, this Swedish trio plays mellow, gothy rock with some of the flattest, characterless vocals imaginable. The songs move slowly and have very little variation, often repeating the same boring riffs much longer than needed. There is no energy at all (seriously... none) which ultimately makes for a very ho-hum, colorless release. I’ve heard countless albums that simply don’t grab me, but Sixoneosix brings boredom to new levels on this demo. Even at just three songs, God Told Me seems like it drags on for an eternity. I mean, usually boredom just makes me want to touch myself and/or fall asleep, but this actually gave me a headache. Think that’s impossible? Listen for yourself and find out.
