No use yankin’ your cranks on this one, folks. Italy’s Imposer play old-school death metal that’s directly to the point and totally devoid of bullshit frills, so it only makes sense to have its review follow suit.
Imposition Servant very effectively splinters down the door, hones in on the meat, and cruelly strips, flays and burns flesh from bone, all in under 22-minutes. Seven carvings of intense flailing, pitiless riffing, and caustic bellowing that’s sure to please fans of very early Morbid Angel, Malevolent Creation, Immolation, and to a slightly lesser extent, Angel Corpse (mostly due to the kingly, “Blood from My Eyes”). The general pace of each song is bent on fury, with moments of slightly less hurried hacking sporadically bubbling to the surface as well, and it’s all perfectly complemented by some beautifully inhuman, guttural hollerin’ that’s often quite reminiscent of Steve Heritage of Assück fame. Production-wise, Imposition Servant is raw and a tad murky, but not so much as to rob the music of its baleful intent. There’s a very “played live and in one take” feel to things that would have easily hamstringed a band with lesser musical skills, but each of the players aboard this beast flourish their respective weapons with enough cunning to prove they’ve all spent gobs of hours under the tutelage of the bands their music adeptly pays homage to.
Imposer certainly doesn’t break new grounds with this demo, so if pushing the envelope of the genre is what inspires your wood to rise, you may wish to look elsewhere. But if you find yourself itchin’ for an old-school death metal walloping, and you’re tired of reaching for the same old utensils, this disc will fuck you up proper. Plenty of samples can be heard at the band’s website, but you’ll have to contact them directly to get this slab delivered to your doorstep. Let's see, how would one say, "Hello, I'd like to be killed by your latest demo", in Italian?
