Blood Red Throne
Affiliated With the Suffering
8.3
When looking at the worldwide metal scene, Norway isn’t exactly a hotbed for death metal. Blood Red Throne is a band that will quickly lay that ideology to rest with a 12” serrated blade. Affiliated With the Suffering is the band’s second full length release which will strike fear into the feint at heart. Featuring Tchort (Green Carnation, ex-Emperor, ex-Satyricon) and Død (ex-Satyricon) at the helm of this monstrosity, you never really know what to expect other than pure carnage. Tchort and Død absolutely punish your soul with chunky break-downs, blazing fast riffs, and for good measure just a bit of melody and whaling guitar solos. With a razor sharp guitar sound, there is absolutely no holding back that guitar work. After ripping your head off with blazing fast riffs, you’re given the absolute crunch of awesome breakdowns, like the one after the solo in “Bleeders Lament” that will hurl your body to the ground. Prepare to be punished even further with the crushing blast beats and double kicks of drummer Espen “Beist” Antonsen, followed by the heavy as hell bass of Erlend C. To round off the murderous crew is vokillist Mr. Hustler. Odd name? Yes it is, but once you hear the brute force of his death growl you will never question him again. With influences ranging from Obituary to Deicide, this is an old-school death fanatic’s wet dream. One thing you have to love about metal guitar work is the good ol’ fashioned triplet. When utilized properly, this simple technique will create unquestionably powerful riffs. Blood Red Throne knows exactly when to throw these bad-boys in, and doesn’t hesitate to use them. Don’t believe me? Just listen to “Mandatory Homicide/Death Inc.” and you’ll hear what I’m talking about. These are the kinds of riffs that will send any good-natured metal head into a frenzy. The production is awesome on here. The guitars have a distorted grit combined with buzz saw like hi-end. The drums let you know they’re there, but are never over powering. I wouldn’t have it any other way. If you claim to like death metal, then you owe it to yourself to pick up this blood-soaked album. Becoming Affiliated with the Suffering was the best thing that ever happened to me; may the orgy of blood never cease!
