Pain of Salvation
Scarsick
3.6
I’ve reviewed countless bad albums across many genres, but this one takes the cake. Lets start with “Spitfall” and its laughably horrible hip-hopish delivery over the top of a Mushroomhead-esque groove. “Cribcaged” is almost painful to listen as almost every line of the lyrics start with “Fuck the…” and because of its horrible balladic pacing. “Disco Queen” actually has disco parts infused with Nu grooves and more of the hip-hopish vocal delivery. “Kingdom of Loss” is another ballad type track, although this one is far worse, with its politically-driven spoken word parts. “Mrs. Modern Mother Mary” is the only track herein that resembles metal in the least, although about 30 seconds in they break into their best Incubus impression. To make matters worse, the shortest song here tops four minutes with the majority of the tracks breaking the six-minute mark.
From beginning to end, Scarsick is a blubbering mess of an album. This is so terrible I’m not sure whether to laugh or to cry. About half the time I found myself gagging like Jim Carrey does in Dumb and Dumber when his buddy is putting the moves on his woman. Needless to say, I would recommend avoiding this album at all costs.
