Sometimes it's best to grit your teeth and pump Ole Yeller full of shot before sympathy gets in the way. This is unbearable garbage.
Brock is a young group out of California that shares the name of its founder and creative mastermind. The riffing is half-thrash/proto nu-metal backwash for beginners that falls flat on its face before it even gets a chance to be butchered by garage production (expected) and amateur execution (unforgivable). These songs could be played by Decapitated and produced by Andy Sneap and still be betrayed by their faulty design. The pacing is slow to moderate throughout, which leaves the songs devoid of any sort of energy or dynamics.
I was once told, in one of the finest executions of a passive aggressive put-down I've ever been subject to, that it takes two things to be a good singer: range and the ability to carry the tune. Brock keeps his head above water in the second category, but sinks like the Andrea Doria in the first. He sounds restrained, like he recorded this album in his basement while his roommates were trying to sleep. There's no volume, force, or emphasis to drive most of these vocal lines home. If he was holding a conversation with my grandfather in this singing voice, he'd probably he punched in the throat out of frustration.
Too many things go wrong, not enough things go right, and no discernable talent or forethought is displayed on this demo. Do not pursue.
