This is absolutely NOT a metal record, so why are we putting this up? First of all, it was sent to us, and after all, part of our slogan is “We listen to everything . . . “ Second, a handful of country music fans have come out of the woodwork through the course of previously published reviews of Rebel Meets Rebel and Jeff Walker und die Fluffers, and Bourbon Crow do embody the outlaw country side of those bands, albeit with a more modern sound. Lastly, frontman Buck Bourbon is better known to the world as Wednesday 13, and fans of his work may want to know what he’s up to.

So if you’re a fan of the style or just looking to get a taste of the type of music that inspired the above mentioned bands, Highway to Hangovers is well worth your time. Songs about hard drinking and hard women delivered with Wednesday’s usual wit (“Drink ‘Til You Ain’t Ugly”, “Suck My Dixie”, “Alcohol is Awesome”) and morbid sense of humor (“A Dead Body”, “Lord Put My Girl”), so fans of him in general may even find something to like as he transposes his style onto a new genre. Even the graveyard atmosphere he conjured up on Transylvania 90210 has been changed to the atmosphere of the old west and wide open plains. Kudos to Wednesday 13 for having the balls to release an album that is so out of character – and maintaining his artistic integrity in the process.
