7th Nemesis
3 Song Promo
8.2
You know, I kind of disregarded this release at first. I mean it's kind of hard not to. It's only a three song promo that's over in no time flat. Once I had given 7th Nemesis' 3-Song Promo some more time I was able to allow everything to sink in, and when it finally did I was in for a fucking treat. 7th Nemesis is like a blazing ride through hell while being smashed in the face with a 2x4. Not only is this album fast, but brutal, and with some expansive interludes as well.
This quintet from hell is comprised of Sargon on vokills, Xavier and Alex on guitars, Mat on bass, and Andrew on drums. The first thing that really came to mind while listening to this was Sargon's higher pitched vokill attack being similar to that of Bill Steer's from the legendary Carcass. That's not the only style of vokills he employs though, there are some all out death growls found throughout also. Xavier and Alex have some absolutely crushing and insane riffs on here. The harmonics sound dead on, and when things get slower the heaviness ups ten-fold. In the third song, "Phoenix Resurrectio", there is even this expansive part that for whatever reason gives me this strange Enslaved vibe in the beginning, but quickly diverts to a sound all its own. Andrew does a phenomenal job on the drums keeping up great pace with the rest of the band and adding to the onslaught. The bass, compliments of Mat is also heavy and well played.
With only three songs to digest, this left me hungry for more. Supposedly the bands first full-length release is due sometime soon and personally I can't wait to hear it. With talent that's just waiting to explode, 7th Nemesis has a promising future. Fueled by hatred and insanity this band should please fans of the absolutely fucking crushing-technical death metal (i.e. Cryptopsy, Origin, Dying Fetus, etc.). I'm not going to recommend, I'm going to demand that fans of brutal death check this band out. You will not be disappointed.
