Heavy fucking metal is the best way to describe Die Alones debut 4-song demo. Combining elements of death metal and just plain heavy riffs in the vain of the chugging hardcore sound, Die Alone is on their way to making a name for themselves in the scene. This Milwaukee based-quartet have some talented musicians at the helm, not to mention an insane vokillist.
These are more Than Words. This is about Life starts off with the song "Speak Louder than Words" which is sure to grab just about anyone's attention with the intro death-thrash riff beating you to a pulp. Tim Bleske and Mykey Adler are talented guitarists. Antonio Ninham is also a rather seasoned drummer, combining some decent fills with powerful double kicks and some blast beats for good measure. Art Henke's vokill attack took a little getting used to at first, but by the second listen I was drawn in by it. Most of his vokills are the higher-pitched hardcore scream, but not ear piercing like some of the vokillists out there, which is a very good thing because I usually can't stand the vokills like that. He also incorporates some notable death growls and spoken word and his vokills are always from the heart and sung with conviction.
Every song on the album is solid, but unfortunately the production is not. The drums leave something to be desired (those double kicks sound pretty flat) and the guitars at times can sound a little muddled. Overall this is something worth checking out. Although you only get four songs worth of music (amounting to just under 20 minutes) the CD does include a bonus live video you can play on your CD-ROM, and because it is only a 4-song demo the price is relatively cheap. Honestly I would see no problem in throwing some of my hard earned dough towards the purchase of this one.
