If I Had Eyes

Demo

Synopsis:

Another one of those high energy but unoriginal myspace death core demos…

Review:

While it would be easy for me to simply mix my Arbiter and Beyond Decimation demo reviews to succinctly describe this, some competence and moderately enjoyable (if you enjoy the genre) aspects of these three songs makes  If I Had Eyes deserve a little more critique.

Essentially death metal played by hardcore kids, Connecticut’s If I had Eyes are The Red Chord worshipping kids with tangible sounds similar to From a Second Story Window, The Concubine, Veil of Maya, Between the Buried and Me, Hatebreed and such: so then, chaotic, techy, crumbly, rumbling, growly/screamy deathcore/hardcore with plenty of slightly forced melodies (i.e. “Loose Lips Sink Ships”), hefty breakdowns (“Drowning In Deep Water”) and experimental injections all wrapped if in a forceful but slightly rough package. It’s hard to gauge the band with only three songs, but the fact I gave this several listens after I had this review written, notably the five minute “The Navigator”, is a little testament to the band.

Not great, not bad and certainly no worse than some of the signed stuff out there right now. Is this a must listen band? No. Would I pick up a full-length album? If it were tighter and better produced, absolutely.
