Review:
While I wait for Built Upon Frustration’s forth coming effort, a few bands have filled the void of guttural, heavy hardcore - the truest sense of deathcore. Bloodshot, Hostility and this wee offering from The Burning, which for basically a demo, shows some primal, frill free heaviness.
Though only three songs, and basically lumbering opener “Weakling” being the centerpiece of the release, The Burning have some chops, even if only for seven minutes. Second track “End of All” and slightly more melodic third track “Counting Days”, while equally hefty and groove filled, seem a bit rehashed, if still heavy and markedly more guttural than the usual deathcore fare.
This release is like sex for me; heavy, growling and shortlived, but ultimately enjoyable and worth another go for a longer effort.
