Review:

Here’s an all too brief but promising four song EP, (if even that) that consists of two studio tracks (one a video edit) a live track and a demo track from this English outfit, trying to bridge the gap between ambient post rock and a more visceral angular form of post hardcore noise.

Basically the main track on this free downloadable demo EP (something Gomek Records offers on all their releases) is the title track, “Darkness Prevails”, a track that shifts from grating atonal, lumbering noise to layered, blissful elegance with plenty of builds, peaks and lulls to keep you guessing.

Vocalist Ed Gibbs sways from gritty screams to competent clean vocals, while the rest of the band makes equally subtle shifts as ”Darkness Prevails” and soaring single “Like its Your Last (video edit)” offer tangible, shimmering mood shifts that are competently done.

The demo track, “Clouds” is expectedly raw but shows the band’s bipolar sound and approach. The live track, “Some Friend”, is well, a live track, from a very small venue by the sounds of it, but displays the band's live competency.

Certainly not the ‘next big thing’ to come out of the UK, but I will most definitely keep an eye on this band to see if they make some noise in a very genre ripe musical scene.
