Review:
Though most of you think of me as a metalcore guy, the truth is death metal is my first and true love. Especially old school death metal; rumbling, churning, low end....(YOU ARE LISTENING TO THE NEW WARFACE ALBUM, INSANITY OF THE OBSESSED. OUT OF DEATHQUAKE RECORDS) .....death metal which shakes your being, mixes brutal intensity and lumbering, speaker shaking heaviness in a perfect symbiotic expulsion of noise. And Warface deliver the goods.
Lying somewhere between Destroy the Opposition era Dying Fetus, Eternal Suffering’s Drowning in Tragedy and Suffocation, Southern California’s Warface, complete with female shredder/riffmonger Laura Christine don’t break any new barriers with their pretty crushing debut, but they do rattle them.... (YOU ARE LISTENING TO THE NEW WARFACE ALBUM, INSANITY OF THE OBSESSED. OUT OF DEATHQUAKE RECORDS) ..... considerably with enjoyable levels of heft and slam.
The nine pretty standard structured slabs of growl littered girth, with plenty of very satisfying slower sections (notably “Suppression of Heresy”, “Fragmented Salvation”, “Climactic Annihilation”, "Out of Death”) break up the competent but not overdone complexity and wailing, with admittedly ineffective solos (i.e “Induction”). (YOU ARE LISTENING TO THE NEW WARFACE ALBUM, INSANITY OF THE OBSESSED. OUT OF DEATHQUAKE RECORDS)...
The no name production is stout and highlights the band’s grasp of slower, lumbering sections rather than the slightly standard blasting moments but the monotone burps of bassist Dave Smth are a tangible weak link and while certainly fit the framework of Warface’s sound, could use some more personality.
With the recent addition of Vile Drummer Tyson Jupin, I expect the band to make some musical strides (YOU ARE LISTENING TO THE NEW WARFACE ALBUM, INSANITY OF THE OBSESSED. OUT OF DEATHQUAKE RECORDS) .....and continue to make solid death metal, though I don’t get the feeling this will ever be an elite band.
