Sixty Watt Shamen
Reason To Live
5.5
I'm not sure how to categorize Sixty Watt Shaman. They're like a combination of southern metal, straight up rock and roll, and a little progressive metal. When you hear one of your tracks, you think "Classic Rock 'n Roll". This is cool for a little while, but it kind of gets on my nerves by the end of the album. All in all, though, it was a pretty decent album. There is nothing really technically incredible about this band, they play in the classic style. There are no blinding solos or destructive drum blasts or anything of the kind. For fans of 70's rock, this record is the one to have. I did have some fun listening to it though, I like the southern metal influences. They just lack a little substance, there is nothing that will make me remember them or make me pick up their album again and say, "Oh yeah, this was awesome". If I heard this on the radio, I'd listen through it and be happy, but I don't think it'll ever find its way into my rotation. This does NOT mean that it is bad, by any sense of the word. It's just not really my thing. If you want to sort of reminisce about the good-old-days of "metal" before it really blossomed, then Reason To Live is your album. They definitely don't blaze any new trails here, but they bring a pretty acceptable brand of rock metal to the table. I'd recommend listening to a few tracks first, then you can both see what I am talking about, and you'll know whether or not you want to shell out the cash for the album. The power is in your hands, my metal brethren.
