Negligent Collateral Collapse
Sick Atoms
7.1
You can always rely on Obscene Productions to deliver ball splatterlingly heavy grindcore, and with their new album Sick Atoms, the Czech Republic’s cyber grinders Negligent Collateral Collapse deliver the goods with gobs of down tuned, pig growling grindcore that takes a bite from Blood Duster and Cock and Ball Torture in that grindcore can be more about groove than just gore.
With just a sick, sick low-end production and equally low vocals, NCC growl and groove their way through 19 drug based (each track is named after some sort of illegal substance), short, sharp bursts of speaker wilting heaviness, that while short on song writing and memorability, have enough sheer breath sucking body shots to make it worth your while.
Though not as ‘cyber’ themed as Paranormal Nanodivision, Sick Atoms still has a vague sense of mechanical atmosphere with a few whirrs and beeps sprinkled within as well as some well placed samples from the movie Alien: Resurrection (“Methamphetamine”, “Marijuana”), but on the whole the thing is one intertwined assault of burps and thick, rumbling riffs. There are plenty of fervent blasts amid the surprisingly restrained pace (“Hallucinogens”, “Smoking”, “Ecstasy/Herbal Ecstasy”, “The Facts”, “GHB”, “Ritalin”) but on the whole, Sick Atoms is more based in bowel loosening mid paced head bobbers like “Sick Atoms”, “Crack and Cocaine”, “Hallucinogens”, “Alcohol”, “Serious”, “Inhalants” and “Ketamine” are just silly heavy in their intelligibly burped, chunky delivery, but are not as boring as Cock and Ball Torture's recent transition.
Be aware though, your stereo, and your fillings (as well as your neighbors) will hate you for playing this at loud volumes as you can almost taste the heaviness in the air as grooves heavier than a King Kong bowel movement lumber from your shattered speakers.
