No, seriously, enough fucking samples everyone. Stop doing it. Play your songs and fuck off.
On a similar note, playing dozens of really short songs is a gimmick whose time has come and gone. Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Nasum rendered this “style” of grindcore irrelevant five years ago. It's time to move on.
If there was a Santa, that would be my wish list this year. But Santa, like so many good ideas in this universe, is not real, and all my wishing won’t make bands like BCT stop sucking better band’s cocks. Is that too bad? Nah. These guys are a second rate flash grind act at best. Play the songs sloppy, play them in a hurry, put in lots of samples so all the hopheads are continually shifting between laughing and tripping. But I am not a hophead and I am not one of the post Clerks generation that must find this shit amusing. I am a fuckhead on the lookout for some great music and this record is not for that demographic.
Like most other records in this style, this is essentially a collection of bridges sewn together with sound bites, in this case some kind of marijuana party or something. It’s mixed really thickly, the band gets to express their inner spazztic-ness without actually having to make a song that can stand on its own. Ten years ago I would have liked the irony, now I just want to hear a band play some songs. Musically I guess you have to give the band some props for being tight…maybe. Maybe not. It doesn’t really matter because the music they make doesn’t compel you to pay attention to what they are doing to make it.
The bottom line is that grind and spazzcore has progressed, diversified and left shit like this behind. One minute grooves without context or structure come off as easy and cheap ways to avoid real songwriting. Maybe it gets your buddies off in the basement after a gas mask bong hit, but that’s about all it’s going to do. Out here in the cold miserable fucking real world it sounds lazy, vapid and dated.
