As we delve deeper into the millennium we watch as more bands bring themselves to the forefront. There is tons of new talent out there in the extreme metal world just waiting to be discovered by the metal masses. One of these bands is Pennsylvania's very own Beyond Fatal spewing forth their sophomore release, Sanctuary In Misery. Hailing along the lines of brutal death, Beyond Fatal seems to be on the right path. With some powerful riffs, smashing melodies, crushing grooves, and looming bass lines, this band is hard hitting straight from the beginning. The beginning track, simply titled "Intro" almost reminds me of Marduk, but quickly leads into the song "Dissension of Silence" which is where the brutal death begins. Matt Glaser does a great job handling the vokills. His guttural growl can match any out there in the scene today, and his higher pitched vokills sound really cool too. At times his voice reminds me a bit of Ross Dolan, of Immolation. Adam Reed also does a superb job behind the kit never letting down on the powerful blast beats. The lyrics contained in Sanctuary In Misery are rather insightful and intelligently written also. The lyrics cover everything from religion to oppression giving you a good mix of topics. The production is pretty descent, it's not perfect, but neither is it garbage. Overall this is a pretty good effort from Beyond Fatal. I recommend at least checking them out, for this is a band I'd keep an eye out for in the future. I really enjoyed the release on the first couple listens, but it did eventually wear on me a bit. All in all a very worthy metal release though.
