Good Clean Fun
Between Christian Rock And A Hard Place

With today’s hardcore scene increasingly being dominated by metallic hardcore and self-righteous religious bands, posicore merrymakers Good Clean Fun decided the scene needed another dose of good old fashioned positive hardcore a mere three years after they disbanded. Like their previous material, this release is chock full of straight forward youth crew style hardcore with tons of sing alongs, gang vocals and nary a breakdown to be found anywhere. That alone makes them stand out quite a bit from their contemporaries but the consistent, not-a-dud-among-them songwriting and flair for distinctly catchy sing alongs nestled in golden era not too fast, not too slow hardcore is what truly sets them apart.
Like the posicore bands of years gone by, Good Clean Fun is out to address the current ills of the hardcore scene and world at large but with a far more wicked sense of humor and clever turn of phrase than their sometimes staid, unimaginative predecessors. They rail on emo kids, right wing Christian bands, the drug war, makeup wearing goths, reality television and corporate rock just to name a few. All of these songs have some of the funniest lyrics I’ve ever heard but none top the closing acoustic number “The MySpace Song”. Like their previous “Loserdotcom” song, this is another jab at the internet replacing real human interaction amusingly wrapped in a tale of losing a girlfriend to someone on her MySpace page.
It’s great to see these guys come bring their upbeat hardcore message back to a scene plagued with thug hardcore and intolerant edge bands. That it’s packaged in classic, catchy as the flu hardcore, free of any metallic influences, makes it that much better. So if you’re looking for a breath of fresh air, which is ironically a throwback to an earlier era of hardcore, then pick up this latest one from Good Clean Fun.
