Has it been done? I mean the goregrind album featuring NOTHING BUT movie samples. Because I think whoever finally does this will get some kind of meaningless award from me for finally killing this tired and utterly no longer amusing trend. I am playing this disc on my comp and manually dragging the place marker dealy along until I hear no more samples. It was funny, once. Ministry was the first band I heard actually incorporate samples from movies into their songs, but I didn’t get out much so I can’t say if they were the actual originators. If so, fuck them for what they have wrought.

Along a similar vein, zombies are not cool and they are not scary. They are dull and…hehe…lifeless.

And ENOUGH FUCKING PLAN 9. I thought we all worked through that particular nostalgia fetish in '87.

This disk is an hour and change of goregrind, but if you take out the samples it’s a decent forty minutes. They ought to have done this. It’s actually a new record plus some older material. Perhaps if you listen to the new and the old separately the samples won’t irritate as much, but Jesus, they get long and old.

Right, enough about the samples. The songs are pretty cool, in that goregrind overinaminute kind of way. The novelty of this style, even apart from the trend that shall not be discussed, is fast wearing thin. As with all tactile music, at some point the genre has to produce something the average fuck can hold onto, and 90 second blasts of pure texture just aren’t it. You have to…I don’t even like to say it, but it’s the fucking truth…grow. And many bands have to varying degrees of success. But Neuropathia are going to be die hard gore grinders until the end if this record is any indication. And for what it is this record is at least meaty, punchy and incorporates enough subtle variance to keep the listener with them. If it weren’t for the thing I am not going to name anymore distracting me at several points I would possibly have given the record a stronger recommendation.

The guitars are midless and thick, making you work to pick out the riffing. The drums are legible, but nothing special is taking place. Accent accent, thrash, blast. Repeat. The vocals are throaty roaring and burpsnorting. The production is wet and sticky like the coroner’s saw blade. The older material suffers a bit, but it usually does. All the musicianship is simplistic but sufficient. Which, in goregrind, means why did I even bother bringing it up?

I can bottom line this recording best by stating that it does precisely what you assume it will. I have a hankering for this kind of metal now and then, and I approve of fuckitall attitudes in any musical endeavor. But if I am to be consistent then I have to rip these guys for being more of the same just like any other niche band. They don’t suck or anything, but there are quite a few other bands who have done this before and done it as well or better. And the goddamned trendy thing unnamable needs to fucking end, no matter who you are or what your musical style is. If this is the only grind at your local shop and you don’t already have a few disks of this shit, go ahead. Otherwise this is only for the diehards.
