He Who Corrupts
The Smell of Money EP
7
One of the better live bands in the entire midwest, Hewhocorrupts play the core of grind. The grinding core. Always underproduced, usually disharmonious, and sometimes groovy, they definitely subscribe to a newer school of thought and represent a more modern style. Don't expect the likes of Napalm Death from these pocket-protecting maniacs, but do expect some top notch screams, blasting drumming, and clunky breakdowns. Sadly, the EP's over before it even begins, clocking in at under eight minutes. It'd be silly of me to meander on over something under ten minutes, so this may end up being the shortest review I've ever written.
This is a short but enjoyable EP. Don't purchase it anticipating anything stunningly original, but each of the five songs on The Smell Of Money are worth listening to, and the video included on the CD is probably the best video in all of heavy music. Which isn't saying much if you've seen a lot of metal videos, but still, it means something. If you're not going to buy this, check out their website and at least buy something from Hewhocorrupts and catch them if you're luckily enough to have them come through your town. They deserve some more support and recognition for their diligent work pushing pencils and over-the-top grindcore. Maybe we should all chip in and buy them a notarized certificate of appreciation or something; I don't know.
