Blah blah, Christian hardcore, blah blah blah. Standing up for convictions and blah blah, brotherhood and unity and not turning back on your beliefs or something. That's just great, guys. Just what I need after a long day of work, right?
Attempting to execute tough and thick metalcore ala No Innocent Victim at an unenergetic pace, In Due Time face a certain degree of inherent obstacles. Plagued by awkward time changes and monotonous vocal patterns, the first song, "The Ultimate Measure Of A Man", seems to pave the way for an average release. Their breakdowns are always so clunky and basic that I could probably fall asleep if I was listening to this album with a beer in hand. There's occasional goodness to be found in almost everything, however, and when In Due Time decides to bare their teeth and picks up the tempo a bit, they have far more of an effect than one of their tedious and predictable breaks. The real difficulty I'm having with Final Showdown is the fact that close to every riff seems like it would work best being introductory and ushering in something more pummeling. When they do have noticeable parts, they're never brought to the listener with any sort of intelligent change. They just lay their sections out in a very rudimentary manner. I'm not going to dare ask too much from a band like this who's intent obviously isn't to dazzle their listeners with blindingly clever structure, but c'mon. Give us something just slightly more challenging to work with.
Lets face it: it could be a lot worse. While this credo may work from some people, regrettably, it won't fly with me. So in my eyes, while it could be a lot worse, it could also be a lot better. But it isn't. Move it along, kids. Nothing new to see here. Painfully dull.
