Think Before Speaking
2.1
Looking for some Italian, keyboard driven pop/rock? Me neither, but they send ‘em, we review ‘em. So away I go.
Think Before Speaking is the debut album from Italian band Even. Think Firehouse; think White Lion; and then add some Europe-sounding keyboards, some accented vocals, and subtract a fair amount of talent. That my friends, is Even.
Are you still reading? Shit! Alright…
I listened to most of six songs before my testicles climbed completely into my body and I had to turn this off. From what I heard, about half the songs were ballads. Power ballads would even be a stretch. The couple of faster songs could almost be described as rock. Fucking horrible rock, but rock. From checking out their website I noticed that several of the members listed bands like Ozzy Osbourne and Iron Maiden as their favorite artists, but I don’t see how admiration for anyone that heavy had any impact on the songwriting or musicianship of this band. Most interestingly, the singer listed his bands as Faith No More…and Toto. Jesus Christ.
While I was on their website I also saw several links for reviews for this album. Not believing they would be proud to point any poor perspective suckers to a warning of how much this sucks, I checked a few of the reviews. None were in English, but the ones with numerical scores all rated this album in the 7 range. Unless that is a percentage, I have no idea how this could have occurred. Maybe there is some market for this stuff. Somebody likes it, somewhere. Those people have very, very sad lives.
