Five Germans come together to serve up some truly innovative grindcore. Yeah, that's right, truly innovative grindcore. I don't know why, but information about this band is nearly impossible to find anywhere on the internet. But I had definitely seen their name tossed around from time to time by trusted acquaintances, so I figured I'd give it a few spins.

It's pretty great, honestly. By grind standards, it's relatively original, with the strange and empty production feeling while sickening distorted vocals screech alongside a low bark. Stopping and starting continually, Japanische Kampfhoerspiele seem to favor groovy brutality at times and quirky organization that showcases their phenomenal drumming and unique guitarwork. I'd really like to see a pit break out during a set by one of these guys, as I can't imagine anyone being able to fucking keep up with such a bizarre act. Musically, at their most coherent, they're somewhat similar to maybe Rotten Sound or Agothacles....on PCP.

The track "Fan Von Gar Nichts" is certainly what most closely resembles a song - starting with an engaging progression with some complex pull-off riffing, spontaneously breaking into a fast grind, and finally rounding itself out with traditional thrash. The last song, entitled "Bonustrack" is an absurd electronic song. If you're going to say anything about this band, you at least have to make note of the creativity operating amongst the members of Japanische Kampfhoerspiele.

Bastardized Recordings has certainly done themselves well by signing these guys, as I'm sure of Japanische Kampfhoerspiele can get out to a decent studio, they certainly have the potential to place themselves amongst the bigger names in grind. It's a shame it's only 21 minutes long, as I was truly enjoying what I heard. Hopefully they'll release a full-length relatively soon.
