Screaming Afterbirth
Drunk on Feces
5.1
Yeah, it's brutal. Yeah, it's got funny samples from porno movies. Yeah, the name of the album is Drunk On Feces. Yep. You guessed it. Gore-grind. Or maybe porno-grind. It doesn't matter. But it's certainly not hydro-grind, I can tell you that much.
I'd tell you how the music sounds, but I'm not sure I can. See, Screaming Afterbirth manage to trick you into thinking they have good production by really showing off their fantastic drummer and blasting you with the sound. However, the guitars are a muddy mess while the bass is almost undetectable. I really almost feel bad for these guys, as what might be lurking behind this wall of murky shit could truly be amazing. Unfortunately, although I can hear a few artificial harmonics here and there, I have no choice but to speculate that the rest of the mystery riffs are nothing but standard. I think it's okay? I don't know. It's brutal, though, man! Yeah! Brutal and incoherent! Fuckin' right!
Actually, on "Blowtorch Lynchings", the bass does make a cameo appearance and really provides an excellent groove. There are other select moments in which Screaming Afterbirth prove themselves able to lay down a great rhythm, but they're typically not worth the amount of shit you have to wade through in order to find them.
Throughout most of Drunk On Feces, the vocals are the lowest and most indiscernible gurglings perhaps known to the entire genre. But from time to time, you'll actually hear a few anguishing screams and Agoraphobic Noisebleed yells on a track or two. I could really do without the gurgles, but the batshit crazy screaming is pretty palatable. Overall, fairly decent vocals except when bizarre and annoying high pitched shit comes in on "Truck Stop Raper", which proves entirely unnecessary to the song.
I really can't find a reason to own this album. It is what it is - unrelenting and blasting grind. You've heard it all before. I certainly see them fitting in all too well with the standard line-up you find at the Milwaukee Metalfests, as most of the bands playing there are traditionally inoffensive (musically speaking) and nondescript. So, to most people, I'd tell you to steer clear. However, if you're a huge fan of all things perverted, poorly produced, and brutal, there's no doubt in my mind you'll appreciate Drunk On Feces.
