Down Among The Dead Men

No, this is not a thinly-veiled Slough Feg side project, nor is it even an album of Slough Feg worship. What we have here is a new project spawned from the minds of vocalist David Ingram (ex-Bolt Thrower/Benediction/Downlord) and jack-of-all-trades Rogga Johansson (Paganizer/Ribspreader/The 11th Hour, et. al.) What? I can’t be the only person who got it wrong on first guess. But yes, I know now that it is a relatively common phrase with multiple instances in print and televised media. GET OFF MY BACK!
But I digress.
Ingram recently told Terrorizer:
“What one can expect is 30 minutes of Crusty Death Punk with a slight Scandinavian edge, raw-yet-distinguishable vocals, with mostly fantasy-fueled lyrics.”
That’s as good a description as any. If you’re having trouble imagining that, think of a Scandinavian death metal band playing crust punk covers with an Anglo-Saxon growler. If you’re having trouble imagining that…well, we proudly present you with this tasty little nugget from their self-titled debut album:
That’s a solid bit of chaotic cacophony right there. Ingram’s familiar bellow plays neatly off of Johansson’s efficient riffing, all underscored with hammerblow percussion. At just over three minutes, its actually the second longest track of thirteen. The album packs as much punch in its 30-minute runtime as some albums that are twice as long with half as many tracks.
